Ancient Myths, Modern Meanings

Class 245

Myths-- the stories told repeatedly from one generation to the next-- represent one of the most enduring ways that humans have sought to explain themselves and the world around them. This course introduces some ancient myths whose popularity continues into the present day, and explores the meanings that people have discovered in them. Our interest is not just in the importance of the myths for the ancient cultures that created them, but in ways in which these stories continue to help us to understand ourselves.
