Gospel Revelations performs in December 2004 concert.

In the 1960s, Cindy Woodson, Paula Wooldridge, Rose Wooldridge, Cynthia Green and others came together to develop a common thread and a means of expression for unity. Twenty African American students began a choir with all four sections represented and became known as the Gospel Revelations. The students then recruited Morris Gordon, a local musician, whom they met at church to provide direction. Gospel Revelations continued through the next three decades under the leadership of Morris Gordon, Robert Neal, Danita Bell, Robert Hunter, Bonita Washington-Lacey, Aaron Stevens and Wanda Simpson. For the past 9 years the group has been under the leadership of Shenita Piper, Choral Director and Patrick Piper, Musical Director.

The group that was once 20 voices strong in the 1960s, today has a membership of 175 students, faculty and community voices. The legacy and tradition of diversity continues to be a significant component of the Gospel Revelations experience. The choir has been and continues to be grounded in the tradition of African American Gospel music. Gospel Revelations continues to be a place of spiritual support and discovery for its members. For many of us at Earlham College, Gospel Revelations is one of the best expressions and models of community of which we aspire. A diverse community of mutual respect, care, compassion, learning and fun continues in the tradition of the group.

Today, 40 years later we are excited about celebrating this anniversary and want to express our sincere thanks to each of you for your continuous support. We would also like to give a special thank you to BeBe Winans for joining us during Earlham's Homecoming weekend and making this anniversary one we will never forget!
