BMC Bioinformaticsreached an impressive milestone in May 2007, receiving 105 manuscript submissions - a record number for the journal. This is the first first time that monthly submissions for a single BioMed Central journal have reached triple digits, and demonstrates the continuing success and growth of BioMed Central's journals.
We are especially pleased to see BMC Bioinformatics maintaining and improving its position, as bioinformatics is now a very competitive field of publishing, and authors have many open access journals to choose from....
PS: Rising submissions help a journal improve its quality and impact, which in turn help it improve its submissions even further in a benign circle. Congratulations to the whole Bioinformatics team.

The open access movement:
Putting peer-reviewed scientific and scholarly literature
on the internet. Making it available free of charge and
free of most copyright and licensing restrictions.
Removing the barriers to serious research.
I recommend the OA tracking project (OATP) as the best way to stay on top of new OA developments. You can read the OATP feed on a blog-like web page or subscribe to it by RSS, email, or Twitter. You can also help build the feed by tagging new developments you encounter.
