HW: Browser settings and reading about the web

a) Help! Animated images don’t animate in my Netscape browser. What
preference or setting would you change to fix this?
You go to “Edit” and scroll down to “preferences”. In the window that
pops up, click on the tab that reads “privacy and security” and then
scroll down to “images”. Radio buttons should appear. Click on “accept all
images”. This should enable the animation of your images.

b) What is the full file path where the netscape preferences get stored
for your own username? Paste this into your blog. Hint: do a search for
prefs.js.

Rugby retrieval

1. How many results do you find?
no reslults were found.

Click on Results from all of the BBC tab:

no results were found.

3. How much effort did it take you to find the Search box, ie did you have look hard for it or was it intuitively obvious?
the Search box was very abvious, it did not take any effort to look for it.

4. Now how many results did you get?
5 results were found.

results are ordered in relvenace to the search. Simply it means how relevant our results to our search.

5. Open the first story, “An Extraordinary Joe”, download the graphic (like we did on Monday) and save the web address (URL) (which you also know how to do). Now upload the graphic to appear as a popup in the current blog entry. Paste the URL into the blog entry as well.
To make this “clickable” just add the text you want to click on and put it in quotes with a : directly in front of the URL.

The same results that were found on the BBC site were found on the second page on google.

position?
His local team is Auckland, and his national team is New Zealand, and he
plays wing.

C) How many tries has he scored in international rugby in how many matches?
11 tries in 11 matches.

9. How many different sources use this phrase? Makes you wonder
5 different sources used the same phrase.. who is the original source and hwo is copying??

Now let’s explore Advanced Google search. Click the “Advanced Seach” link, fill in joe rokocoko
10. How would you find all the UK references to Joe (use domain .uk) - give How many results are returned when you do this search?
603 results.

11. How about New Zealand ? (use domain .nz)?
1640 results.

Now set all the advanced stuff back to default and type in Joe Rokocoko as the search.
Click on the Directory tab
12. How many results? Highlight one of the Categories, copy it and paste into the blog entry. Can you find out which country is hosting this year’s rugby world cup?
3 results were found. Category: Sports > Football > … > Regional > New Zealand > News and Media. Australia is hosting this year’s world cup.

10 results were found. Countries like New Zealand, South Africa, UK, and Australia

14. What is the qualitative difference between results from “Web”, “Images”, “Directory” and “News” tabs? That is, what sort of web sites do they bring up?
an image search will bring all the picture with keywords. web search will find all sites with keywords. news search will find results from news websites. directory finds results from databases that are relevant to the keywords.

15. How many results are found? Do the titles of any of these give you an idea of how to play the game?
42 results were found. the title “the book of the game” might give me an idea on how to play the game. page 4 of the results.

Click the forward arrow to go to page 2. Open the article “Scrum as you are …”
16. What is the topic of this article?

according to the abstarct the article is about the following: “Looks at the Kings Cross Steelers, the first openly gay rugby team in Great Britain. Their performance on the field; How their sexual preference has impacted the team in terms of the opponents who will play them; Concerns about HIV transmission which are covered under the rules of the Rugby Union; How the publicity for the team has affected the life of the members.”

17. Make a screenshot of the results window (not the full screen) and upload it into your blog as a popup graphic.

CookBook Instruction for Posting Images:

Press on “New Entry” on the left of the screen. Once the page loads, click on “Upload File”. A popup window will appear whose title is “Choose a file”. Click the “Browse” button, find your H drive and then choose a graphic image (.gif or .jpg). Double-click on the desired file. The path address of that file will appear next to the “Browse” button previously clicked. Click on “local site path” changing it from default choice of “”, then click upload.

A new page will appear asking if you would like to create a new entry using this uploaded file. This choice is selected by default. After that, you have to choices: popup image or embedded image. We shall explain what happens with both choices:

- If you choose embedded image (which will make the image appear on the same page within the text), the HTML code of the graphic image will appear on the blank screen of the “new entry page”. You may add comments in text form above or below the HTML codes.
- If you choose popup image (the image will appear in a new window, there will be a link to that), the HTML code will also appear on the “ new entry” page, you may also add comments in text form. If you look closely at the HTML code you will notice that this link is called “view image”, you may change that so that the link will customized to your liking.

If you chose either way, you will have to press “save” then your done.

1. B: used to make the font bold. i :used to make the font italic. U: tounderline the text. URL: used to creat a link.
2,3: Text typed in enetry body will show on the top of the screen. it works the the intro to the text. so i can put the title and few exciting info in the entry body. Where extended entry would contain the body of the text, it might be longer with more detailed info. Morover, the reader will be asked if he wants to read the Extended Entry, there's an link to that.
4. IF the post status is set to Draft, the new entry will be saved and not published. To publish the entry later on i must change the post status to "publish".
