Sarah's overview

During the 1990’s AOL, Dell, and Amazon become mega-corporations using the internet. Their mega-status makes it difficult for any startup companies with a internet focus to become successful. Although the future for startup companies does not look bright they are ways new internet businesses can become successful amoung larger corporations.

Kristen's Overview

During the mid and late 90’s the internet became a popular tool in society. Naturally, people want to invest in a successful business, and at this time dot coms were the stocks to buy. However, hurried investments, poor business plans, and overeager investors lead to the downfall of the dot com era.

Ali's project page

Here is a link to my project page.

I haven’t included all the references yet, because I thought maybe we could have a sitewide reference page, instead of having them at the end of each site.

See you all in class.

Ali.

Ali's resource list

In the Confused group, my theme is the following :

Is the internet really the engine of economic growth?

These are the ressources I am planning to use.

Q&A: Information Technology: An Engine for Global Economic Growth

Internet Revolution - a marxist perspective

New Economy (Susan Stellin, New York Times; 05/07/2001, Vol. 150 Issue 51746, pC4, 0p, 1 cartoon)

The Internet’s Economy: the World’s Next Growth Engine. (Michael J. Mandel,
Irene M. Kunii,
Business Week; 10/04/99 Issue 3649, p72, 6p, 1 chart, 3c, 10bw)

In Search of New Growth Engines. (Bruce Einhorn,
Pete Engardio, Manjeet Kripalani
Business Week; 11/29/99 Issue 3657, p68, 4p, 4c)

And there are several more related information sources in our beloved Lilly Library that would be fairly tedious to note here. Obviously my final page will include information about all the sources used.

Sarah's Resource list

AOL, Amazon, Dell - how did these tech giants fare during the 90s and what future for startups in this era of mega-corporations?

1.) http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/the_company_file/471639.stm
2.) http://cism.bus.utexas.edu/works/articles/internet_economy.pdf

The databases in the library are very helpful to almost any search. It has a wide variety of information. If our library does not hold the title locally then I can borrow it from the interlibrary loan. I plan on looking there for a lot of my information.

Resource List (Kristen)

Where did my .COM investment go? What actually happened with the .COM boom and bust?

I found these two sites that will help me start my research on dot-com investing and learning about the boom and bust.

Investing today versus during the dot-com boom

Dot-Com Is Dead; Long Live Dot-Com!

In addition to using the internet, I plan to use the library databases to find articles in computer and business magazines and also look for resources in the news and journals.
