January 19: Read for class: Introduction and Chapter 1
January 22: Read for class: Chapter 2, articles by Holmes and Jakobsen
January 26: Read for class: Chapter 3, plus bring in an ad in ST and TT
January 29: Read for class: Chapters 4-5, first translation assignment
February 2: meet in language specific groups, German in C220, Spanish in C211, Japanese in BC226
February 5: meet in language specific groups
February 9: Read for class: Chapter 6
February 12: meet in language specific groups
February 16: meet in language specific groups
February 23: inter-group translation activites, main class, second tranlsation assignment
February 26: midterm exam in language specific groups
March 1 : Watch movie: Lost in Translation
March 4 : Discussion of movie, formulate questions for Chapter 7
March 8 : Discussion of Chapter 7
March 11 : meet in language specific groups
Week of March 15 : Springbreak
March 29: Chapter 9: Chris.
April 1: Chapter 10: Barbara.
April 5: Chapter 11: Chisato.
Assignment for language specific groups to be distributed at end of class.
Distribution of take-home identification exercise on book.
April 8: Language specific groups. Turn in identification exercise.
April 12: Language specific groups: Assignment 3 due.
April 15: language specific groups: Continuation of discussion of assignment 3 or another to be provided.
April 19: Computer generated translation: Chris Meeting in computer lab, details TBA
April 22: Presentations: Assignment 4 (groups 1 and 2).
April 26: Presentations: Assignment 4 (groups 3 and 4).
Portfolios due. Take-home final (translation) to be distributed. Due Friday, April 30, 9am.
