40th Anniversary Reunion Trip
Come join us for a week of adventure designed specifically for Earlham alumni! Two distinctive and unforgettable trips have been planned offering the opportunity to experience either backpacking or canoeing in the same locations August Wilderness students have enjoyed for decades. Since 1971, over 1,500 students have participated on either “Mountain” or “Water.” Whether you missed out on August Wilderness as a student or you would love the opportunity to re-kindle old friendships and re-live fond memories, we hope you can join us in this growing Earlham tradition.
In addition to backpacking or canoeing across pristine lands, participants will enjoy considerable time for individual and group activities like wildlife viewing, fishing, exploring around camp, and just catching up while appreciating nature.
Trip dates are July10-18 and cost is $1295. Highlights include*:
- Travel through some of the more remote and pristine wilderness environments in North America
- Opportunities for wildlife viewing and learning the natural history of the region
- Practice the latest tips and tricks for smart wilderness and backcountry camping and travel
- Fly-fish for trout on Mountain or spin cast for walleye on Water
- Enjoy the freedom of a layover day to relax and explore, journal, or simply take in the silence and solitude!
* Activities listed are planned and will be subject to conditions in the field.
No Previous Experience or Specialized Equipment Necessary
These reunion trips are open to all alumni and spouses or partners regardless of experience. Due to the nature of the course and activities though, it is not possible to include children on this program.
The program is designed to be beginner friendly. All specialized camping equipment will be provided (with the exception of personal clothing and boots). An experienced team will lead each brigade including Wilderness Program alumnae currently working in the outdoor education field, Earlham faculty members familiar with the Wilderness program, and current student Wilderness Staff members.
Why You Should Join Us!
- Reconnect with the Earlham community in a unique and meaningful way
- Come full-circle and revisit the wilderness areas where you may have traveled as a student
- It’s a second chance for those who missed out as students on a great trip and Earlham tradition
- It’s an opportunity to rejuvenate, simplify, and gain perspective through wilderness travel
