| Cheerleading Constitution:
Article 1– Name and Purpose
Section 1. Earlham cheer
Section 2. Our mission is a commitment to spirit and enthusiasm for all athletics and the college as a whole
Section 3. We have formed this organization to have a spirited presence at athletic events ranging from Basketball to Quidditch, as well as a publicly positive attitude for all Earlham community events. We believe that cheer is an important aspect of our community - athletically and beyond.
Section 4. We have the long-term goals of increased participation on the cheer team itself as well as continued support from the Earlham student body. We also would like to expand our presence at athletic events as the team gains experience and members. We also hope to change the way the college looks at cheerleading and can build a sustainable team that can last for years to come and is a sport that new students can look forward to joining and supporting
Article 2 – Membership
Section 1. Earlham Cheer is open to any and all Earlham students. A commitment to team and school spirit is a requirement as well as an attitude of positivity and ebullience. Attendance to practice and all scheduled athletic events is also mandatory. No experience in cheerleading is required.
Section 2. Fall 2010 Interested Members: 20 members (17 female, 3 male-all of varying years in college and experience levels)
Article 3 – Officers/ Leaders
Section 1. We have three captains of Earlham Cheer this year: Jaclyn Parell, Meredith Morgan and Megan Totzke. We all participate in all leadership roles-convening, coaching, and management. We assume the convenor position collectively. While we all participate in the finances of the team, Megan Totzke is listed as our business manager for simplicity's sake.
Article 4 – Selection of Officers
Section 1.This year officers were selected on a volunteer basis. Last year there was no Cheerleading team because nobody wanted to assume the captainship responsibility. This year only five people were enrolled, so three of us spoke with the Faculty Advisor and she said we could be co-captains if we wanted to take on the responsibilty. In the future, we hope the team will be sustainable enough to elect captains either through an election or consensus process.
Section 2.
Article 5 – Meetings
Section 1. Earlham Cheer plans to meet once every week for practice: on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00-6:00pm as well as at all scheduled athletic events throughout the semester.
Section 2. We plan to meet in the Wellness Center each week for practice and on-site of each athletic event.
Article 6 – Quorum
Section 1. All officers, or captains in the case of Earlham Cheer, must be present to make decisions concerning the team. Concerned members will also have required presence.
Section 2. A quorum will be required upon request of the team as a whole, concerned members or officers.
Article 7 – Amendments and By-Laws
Section 1. Amending the constitution will be done only by the officers, but can be done through quorum upon the request of the parties listed in Article 6. Amendments may also be made if and when officers are rotated each semester upon quorum and consensus of the team as a whole.
Section 2.
Article 8 – Faculty Advisor
