Located in the Student Development wing of Earlham Hall, Campus Security is administered by the Director of Campus Security who is responsible to the Dean of Student Development. Campus Security consists of the Director, four full-time officers, four part-time officers, one full-time safety technician, one secretary/dispatcher and approximately 35 student workers. Several part-time officers have full police powers on the Earlham College campus. Campus Security officers are trained in such areas as patrol procedures, emergency response, CPR, first aid, investigation techniques, public relations and other skills.
Campus Security operates 24-hours-a-day, 365 days a year. Security staff communicate closely with maintenance staff concerning the security of campus property, buildings, lighting, key and lock system, and grounds.
All Earlham College buildings and grounds are private property. Campus Security officers, therefore, are authorized to escort trespassers or any unwelcome parties from campus immediately.
Earlham Campus Safety and Security works in partnership with the Richmond Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Department. All property thefts are recorded into Earlham Campus Safety and Security records for investigation as well as forwarded to the leadership at the Richmond Police Department for investigation. Richmond Police Department partners with Earlham Campus Safety and Security in the investigation of other crimes on campus and may provide immediate patrol response for crimes involving the immediate life safety of persons.
The Director of Campus Safety and Security regularly attends the Wayne County School Safety Commission hosted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Association. Sections of Earlham's outlying campus, which includes Miller Farm, are located outside of the Richmond City limits, therefore; assistance including immediate patrol response is provided by the Sheriff's Department in those areas.
