| Weighted Baccalaureate Origins Study | |||||||
| The Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium provides Baccalaureate Origins data. Using this data we can determine Earlham's rate of PhD productivity and how Earlham compares to other institutions. | |||||||
| This study utilizes data extracted from the Doctorate Records File (DRF) available through the National Science Foundation's (NSF) WebCASPAR database. Records from the DRF are created from responses to the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) which is currently collected by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago on behalf of NSF, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Department of Education, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administrations. The SED is administered to all recipients of Ph.D. and equivalent degrees in the United States. Response rates have been historically high. | |||||||
| The tabs within this report show how Earlham ranks compared to over 1,400 institutions throughout the country. The tables include information on various disciplines and includes comparison rankings for our peer institutions. Prior year data is provided when readily available. | |||||||
| The ranks were determined by calculating the ratio of doctorate origins to baccalaureate completions. The sum of baccalaureate completions for a particular period was divided by the sum of completions for that period offset by five years. For example, the origins for AY1975 – AY2004 were divided by the sum of completions for the period AY1970 – AY1999. | |||||||
| The last tab, "Liberal Arts Colleges" shows Earlham and peer institution ranks among 213 Liberal Arts Colleges | |||||||
