A Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) provides opportunities for hands-on, scholarly research, generally in the sciences. Research experiences also exist in other disciplines. These programs at universities and major labs across the country exist to help students explore their interest in the research area. Programs are expected to accept students from small liberal arts schools like Earlham and they generally pay well.
REUs usually involve a small group of students working with a faculty advisor. Students have the opportunity to present on their research at conferences and they may even be published.
